NYSC Camps To Be Reopened Tuesday, November 10- FG

  • NYSC members will be returning to their orientations camps in no time
  • The federal government has announced that the camps will be reopened on Tuesday, November 10
  • This was specifically revealed by the minister of youth and sports development, Sunday Dare.

After about six months of being closed due to COVID-19 lockdown, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps across Nigeria will be reopened very soon.

The good news was revealed on the Twitter page of the minister of youths and sports development, Sunday Dare on Thursday, October 15. Dare tweeted that the federal government has approved the reopening of the camps from Tuesday, November 10.

Dare noted that full protocols to slow down the spread of the pandemic will be enforced in all camps. He said: Don’t give up, keep trying

“The resumption of the NYSC Orientation Camp for prospective Youth Corpers has been approved and opens on November 10th 2020. Full COVID-19 Protocols will be enforced.” The camps were closed in March by the order of the government following the threatening spread of the deadly virus in the country. Earlier, the leadership of the scheme denied claims on social media that prospective members would be allowed to resume their service on October 27.

In a statement released on Saturday, October 3, the management of the scheme declared the reports as fake. The statement read in part: “Management hereby conveys that the news release is fake. Prospective Corps Members and the public are therefore enjoined to kindly disregard the news in its entirety.” It noted that resumption was earlier tied to reopening of universities but said no date had been approved yet by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 for the re-commencement of the scheme.

The management added: “Management has been working with the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 in order to ensure the reopening of NYSC Orientation camps nationwide, which the PTF had earlier tied to the resumption of educational institutions in the country.”
