Nigerian Student Wins N1.5m After He Designed A Tech Bag That Could Treat Jaundice In Infant Patients

Oluwatomilola Mustapha, a 400 level student of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), has defeated many across the world to emerge the 2020 winner of Tei Kaihau Social Entrepreneur Award in the Global Enterprise Experience challenge.

He is from the department of biology education from TASUED. The student led his team to win a seed capital of $4000 (N1,552,000), TASUED Finest reports. It should be noted that the award is a global competition put together by Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand and is targeted at developing participants’ entrepreneurial skills.

In the 2020 edition, there were over 1,000 participants grouped into 128 teams who came from 116 countries all over the different continents. Oluwatomilola’s winning team is tagged Blue Care. His team created a handy bag with solar-powered blue light used for treating infants with jaundice conditions.

“I have always wanted to give a chance of survival to many children and I think I am attaining that already. “I am so excited I got this opportunity because I went out for quite a number of grants. I have done quite a number of application but they came out unsuccessful but I was unrelenting always ready to give it a try and I am glad I made it this time,” the brilliant Nigerian said.

The award ceremony happened in New Zealand’s parliament on Wednesday, June 24, where he was duly represented.
