Nigerian Paramedic Jailed 12Yrs For S+xually A§§aulting A Teenage Patient In An Ambulance While She Was Having A Medical Emergency On Their Way To The Hospital In The U.S.
A Mecklenburg County jury has found a 34-year-old paramedic, Akingbiwaju Opadele, guilty of s+xually a§§aulting a teenage patient while transporting her to a hospital in an ambulance.
Opadele, who worked with Fort Mill Emergency Medical Services, was convicted of second degree forcible s+x offense and s+xual activity by a custodian following a trial that concluded earlier this month. He was sentenced to 144 months in prison and ordered to register as a s+x offender for 30 years.
Prosecutors said the incident occurred on January 17, 2023, after the victim suffered a seizure at school and was being transported by Fort Mill EMS to Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital.
According to an indictment, Opadele s+xually a§§aulted the teenager while she was physically helpless and mentally incapacitated.
The victim reported the a§§ault after arriving at the hospital, leading authorities to investigate and arrest Opadele in March 2023.
He was initially charged with second degree forcible s+x offense, s+xual activity by a custodian, and s+xual contact or penetration under the pretext of medical treatment. However, prosecutors dropped the medical treatment-related charge in August.
Following his arrest, Opadele posted a $15,000 bond and spent no time in jail before his conviction. As a result, he will not receive any credit for time served toward his prison sentence.
