Nigerian Cancer Society Set To Investigate Blessing CEO Over Cancer Claim And Fundraising
The Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) has called for an investigation into social media personality Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, over allegations that she falsely claimed to have cancer in order to solicit financial assistance from the public.
In a statement released in Abuja, the society’s spokesperson, Bashir Mohammed, expressed concern that the alleged actions may have misled well-meaning Nigerians who contributed donations believing they were supporting a genuine medical case.
He noted that recent developments have raised doubts about the authenticity of the health claims, prompting widespread calls for accountability, possible refunds, and a thorough probe due to the sensitive nature of cancer-related appeals.
The NCS strongly condemned the alleged conduct, describing it as unethical and damaging to ongoing efforts to support cancer patients across the country.
According to the society, exploiting such a serious illness for personal gain could weaken public trust and discourage support for individuals who genuinely need medical assistance.
Mohammed added that the organisation would engage relevant security agencies to investigate the matter and ensure that appropriate action is taken if wrongdoing is confirmed.
He also advised the public to remain cautious when responding to online fundraising campaigns and to verify such appeals through credible channels, including the NCS, which oversees a structured system for patient support and assistance.
