- Chika Ofili, a 12-year-old Nigerian genius, has come up with a new mathematics formula when he made divisibility by 7
- The Nigerian whizkid bagged a TrueLittle Hero award for his discovery in a yearly ceremony that honours genius under the age of 17 in the UK
- According to his maths teacher, Mary Ellis, Chika came up with the formula while trying to solve a holiday assignment he was given.
A 12-year-old Nigerian Chika Ofili has really made the nation proud as he did what many his age could not achieve.
He won an award at the TruLittle Hero award in 2019 for discovering a new way to divide in mathematics. The young mathematician genius’ new formula created new divisibility by seven in mathematics.
It should be noted that the TruLittle Hero Awards is a yearly event that gives recognition to and celebrates marvelling achievements of children and young people who are still under the age of 17 years in the UK.
It was at the 2019 edition of the award that the young Nigerian was recognised for coming up a new formula.
The Cable reports that Mary Ellis, his math teacher, who also doubles as the head of the mathematics department at the Westminster Under School, said Chika discovered the new formular during his holiday assignment.
It was reported that she gave the young Nigerian boy a book, which contained several divisibility tests used to quickly work out if a figure is exactly divisible by the numbers 2 to 9. The book, however, lacked memorable test for checking divisibility by 7.
Chika came up with a new formula to solve the problem. He did it by taking the last digit of any whole number, multiplying it by 5, and before adding it to the remaining part of the number to generate a whole new number.
