Everything good will come.
My very first job in the UK was working in the factory as a meat cutter. My shift started at 6am and finished at 6pm. My pay was less than £6. Two months later I would quit as it affected my study and life balance.
My next gig was working as a kitchen hand for four hours in the morning starting at 9am and in the evening I would do another four hours stint at hotel near the Trafford area. 8 hours of work and my hourly pay was £6.40.
I would go on to be a bar tender, check out assistant, work at a restaurant, sell tickets at festivals, till I finally landed my “big pay” as an health care assistant earning £10.40/hour.
There were many days I cried while doing many hours of standing work. There were many days when nothing made sense as my take home ‘wages’ didn’t take me home.
I admired some of my friends who had secured Tier 2 visa status and moved to London. I was spurred by folks who got good paying job that wasn’t in the Healthcare domain. I wanted what they had. I wanted a version of abroad work that wasn’t shift based and paid more. My reality was however having my shiny Msc degree and doing care work for all I care. However, I knew that everything good will come, with time.
It has been ten years now since then and three countries in between.
The jobs and paycheck that seemed like a day dream are now tangible reality. What seemed unattainable now within sights. From tending bars to tending contracts. From back of house staff to management staff. From care jobs to leadership jobs. Things changed with time but much more with intentionality.
Abroad like life is in phases. Sometimes sour in the beginning. Savoury in between phases and sweet when things align. Atimes it seems the good will never come and things will be the same, but such is nature of life when the wheel of change is spinning without your knowing.
In the end, if you will hold on just enough, believe just enough and push yourself a little enough, everything good will eventually come, with the passing of time.
