Young entrepreneur Ayobani Asare, a Social Media Manager speaks to Elorasblog in this interview.
Please tell us a little bit about your background?
Ayobami Asare is a social media manager whose favorite platform is LinkedIn
My name is Ayobami Asare. I come from a blend of two cultures, Ghanaian and Nigerian.
I was born in Oyo State to a Ghanaian father, Mr. Hassen Asare, and a Nigerian Mother Mrs Taiwo Asare. I grew up with two brothers, and I’m the middle child and the only girl.
I completed my primary and secondary education in Oyo State before moving to Lagos shortly after my secondary school. I later proceeded to the University of Ilorin, where I earned my B.Sc.
What was your dream job growing up?
Growing up, I wanted to become a journalist.
I was always fascinated by the news. Whenever I sat beside my dad in the evening watching presenters speak, inform, and influence people, I felt drawn to it.
It wasn’t just about being on TV it was about having a voice and telling stories that matter.
Looking back, that interest naturally transitioned into what I do today.
What inspired you to become a social media manager?
My interest in media never left it simply evolved.
I realized that social media is today’s most powerful media outlet. It’s where stories are told, brands are built, and people form opinions in real time.
I was drawn to the strategy behind it , not just posting content, but understanding what makes people stop, engage, and trust a brand.
That curiosity is what pushed me into social media management and content strategy.
What is your favorite social media platform? Why?
LinkedIn is my favorite platform.
Because it’s not just social it’s strategic. It gives room for storytelling, authority building, and meaningful conversations, especially for founders and professionals.
It’s one of the few platforms where content can directly translate into opportunities.
Who are the people you’ve worked with as a social media manager?
I’ve worked with founders, small business owners, and growing brands especially those who want to build visibility but don’t have the time or structure to show up consistently.
My focus is helping them turn their ideas into content that attracts the right audience and builds authority.
How do you get paid for your services?
I typically work on a retainer basis.
This covers content strategy, content creation, and ongoing management. I also take on project-based work depending on the client’s needs.
What skills help you be an effective social media manager?
I would say SEO skills stand out the most.
Unlike many other social media managers, my SEO background gives me a deeper understanding of search intent, competitors, and what people are actively looking for and why a brand should be chosen.
It gives me the why behind every strategy.
Beyond that:
Content strategy
Audience understanding
Consistency and content planning
Ability to simplify complex ideas
Storytelling
If you could change anything about social media, what would it be?
I would reduce the pressure to “perform” and increase the focus on value.
A lot of people chase trends and vanity metrics, but real impact comes from clarity, consistency, and authenticity.
What’s the best offer you’ve gotten as a social media manager?
The best offers are usually not just about money, they’re about alignment.
Working with founders and brands who trust your strategy and give you room to execute and always leads to the best results.
What challenges have you encountered as a social media manager?
One major challenge is helping clients understand that social media is a long-term game.
Many expect instant results, but building authority and visibility takes consistency and strategy.
Another challenge is standing out in a crowded space but that’s also what makes the work interesting.
