Man Says He Had Bittersweet” Moment When He Departed To The US For His Masters Cause He Misses His Family

A man named Uwakwe Martin who traveled to the US to pursue his master’s program at Western Illinois University has shared his bitter sweet moment and experiences while setting in a new environment.

Sharing on LinkedIn, he wrote:

As the Qatar Airways Boeing 787-8 aircraft taxied on the runway of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on the 28th of December, 2021 en route to Doha for Chicago, I was having a “bittersweet” moment.

I thought about so many things, the beautiful family I was leaving behind, all my business interests, my people at TEDxIkenegbu, and Bedrock Initiative.

Deciding to leave all of these for my graduate studies in the USA was a very difficult decision. However, I was convinced that the opportunities that studying in a world-class university in the USA will bring will far outweigh the temporary inconveniences.

Today is my first day of class. The beginning of a very tedious journey that will culminate in me being bestowed a Master of Science degree in Applied Stats and Decision Analytics at Western Illinois University.

You see, Data analytics is one of the most in-demand skills in the world today as it empowers smarter business decision-making. In the last year, I have been honing my skills in this space and I am so excited about embarking on this new journey. I am going to make the best of every opportunity that comes my way here.

Like every new international student here, I am still getting used to the weather, the accent, food, and of course the culture shock. I know I will be great at the end of the day.

The American dream, they say, does not come to those who fall asleep. I am here for all of it #dataanalytics #graduateschool.
