MacArthur Foundation Grants 100 Million Dollars To Redeemer’s University
The MacArthur Foundation has awarded a landmark 100 million dollar grant to the Sentinel Project, a global disease surveillance initiative co led by Christian Happi, Director of the Institute of Genomics and Global Health at Redeemer’s University, Ede.
The project is jointly led by Pardis Sabeti of the Broad Institute in the United States.
Sentinel is an innovative outbreak detection framework designed to prevent pandemics by strengthening local community capacity. It brings together clinicians, epidemiologists, geneticists, virologists, bioengineers, computer scientists, and public health experts from around the world.
The initiative has already improved disease surveillance and genome sequencing capabilities across West Africa, positioning the region as a key contributor to global pandemic preparedness.
The MacArthur Foundation’s major investment is expected to accelerate Sentinel’s mission, strengthening global health security and building sustainable systems for early detection of infectious diseases.
