Losing Both Parents Almost Affected My Musical Career, Says Ryno
Fast-rising Afrobeats and Afro-soul singer, Ryno, has spoken about the personal struggles shaping his music career, revealing that losing both parents remains the toughest challenge he has faced as an artiste.
The Ogun State-born singer, whose real name is Abebefe Ayomide, said despite the emotional weight of the losses, he has continued to channel his experiences into music while building his brand in Lagos.
Speaking during an interview with our correspondent on Saturday, the singer described music as an outlet that allows him to express life’s realities and inspire listeners navigating difficult moments.
According to him, his journey into music officially began in 2020, though his passion for entertainment started from childhood within his family setting.
He said, “My foundation in music started at home with my family’s unwavering belief in me. As a child, my sister would beat the drums, I would sing, and our mother would dance to our rhythm.”
Ryno added that street experiences, personal struggles, and daily life continue to influence his sound and songwriting process.
The singer, who blends Afrobeats and Afro-soul, said he remains open to exploring different sounds as his career evolves.
“My biggest inspiration comes from the raw realities of life. Music became the best medium for me to process, express and share those real-world experiences,” he said.
Speaking on the message behind his music, the artiste said he hopes to motivate young people never to stop believing in themselves, regardless of their circumstances.
“I want my music to inject pure motivation into my listeners. My message is simple. Stay determined and keep pushing forward no matter what,” he stated.
Ryno also reflected on one of the biggest highlights of his career so far, which was collaborating with the late singer, MohBad, on the song titled “Hello”.
According to him, the collaboration remains deeply emotional and memorable.
“A major standout moment for me was collaborating with MohBad on my track titled ‘Hello’. It remains a very special milestone in my career,” he said.
The singer recently released a new single titled “La Vida Loca” featuring Oberz, describing the project as a song centred on resilience, confidence, and living life boldly.
“The message behind the song is about resilience and living life on your own terms. Don’t let anyone dim your light. Grab every opportunity and live life to the fullest,” he added.
Ryno also disclosed that he has another single titled “Nothing for Love”, scheduled for release next month.
On the role of collaborations in the music industry, the singer said partnerships with established acts can help emerging artistes grow faster by exposing them to wider audiences.
He noted that he hopes to work with top Nigerian stars, including Zlatan, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Olamide, and Davido, in the future.
The singer also acknowledged Olamide as one of the artistes who greatly influenced his musical journey, revealing that he has admired the rapper since his breakout “Eniduro” era.
