“Lately, My WhatsApp Has Been A Constant Stream Of Requests”- Nigerian Lady Living Abroad Rants
Nigerian lady named Duchess Lois has addressed Nigerians who make unnecessary requests via Whatsapp, warning that they should endeavor to make plans without assuming those abroad will be part of it, while adding that people living abroad spends roughly $2,000 monthly to survive .
In her words:
“I need to say this because it’s something many of us living abroad silently deal with. Just because we don’t speak up doesn’t mean we don’t need help.
Lately, my WhatsApp has been a constant stream of “requests”:
Someone wants to change their phone and expects me to contribute.
Another is getting married and thinks I should fund part of it.
Rent, bills… the list goes on.
I honestly don’t understand how some people think this is okay especially acquaintances. Please, try to make your plans without assuming those abroad will be part of it.
For those of us living outside our home country, life isn’t cheap.
Bills, rent, groceries, health… most of us spend well over $2,000 a month just to survive.
So, before placing demands, remember:
We have to take care of ourselves.
We don’t have anyone else to run to.
Your plans shouldn’t be built around us.
Living abroad comes with sacrifices. Respect that.”
