Lagos DPO Matilda Ngbaronye Dies After Surgery — Police Command Mourns Loss Of Upright Officer

The Lagos State Police Command has announced the death of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division.

According to a statement released on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, Ngbaronye passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, following a surgical procedure at Mayriamville Medical Centre in Surulere, Lagos.

Describing her passing as a monumental loss, Adebisi praised the late officer as a disciplined, professional, and highly principled policewoman whose service was marked by dedication and integrity.

The statement noted that CSP Ngbaronye was widely admired for her diligence, compassion, and commitment to bridging the gap between the police and the public. Her humane approach to policing, the Command said, earned her the respect of colleagues and the community she served.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has extended heartfelt condolences to her family, including her husband and elder brother, a priest, offering the Command’s support during their time of grief.

The Lagos Police Command expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a rude shock to officers across the state. Details of her burial arrangements will be announced later.
