Lady Who Desired To Become A Doctor At Age 8, Fulfills Dream, Becomes A Doctor On Her Wedding Day
“I’ve wanted to become a 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 since I was 8–one day, Amma fell so sick, we had to rush her to the hospital.
I spent days there. Sitting on those benches in the corridors, I noticed these people wearing a white coat with something hung around their neck.
They’d run from one place to another & their one touch would heal people. They 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗱 Amma too. That day, I just knew!
So, I told Amma, ‘I’ll heal people too.’ For the next 10 years, I worked day & night, enrolled myself for classes & gave it my all.
I passed school with flying colors. College was tough but I knew I had to pull my socks up.
Pretty soon, I fit myself into a routine. I was doing well academically & even my personal life was flourishing. Last year, I met 𝗔𝗸𝗵𝗶𝗹 through Amma.
When we realised we had the same values, we said ‘Yes.’ He supported my career & only pushed me. Soon, our wedding date got fixed but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that my wedding & final exam would fall on the 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 day…
The night before the big day was bad. But Amma supported me. She’s dreamt of seeing the ‘𝗗𝗿.’ title in front of my name for years. She sat with me that night while I prepared for my exam. I’d take breaks in between and during those breaks, we’d check the wedding arrangements.
But I was a nervous wreck…my exam was scheduled for 8:45 AM next morning while my wedding was at 11:00! I couldn’t miss my exam, so I asked the principal if he could let me give the practical exam 1st. Fortunately, he agreed. When I reached my college, my classmates clapped for me. I finished my exam in an hour & ran.
As soon as I reached, I removed my lab coat & stethoscope, & sat on the mandap…it was beautiful.
It’s been a month since I’ve gotten married. I’m on a break now–I’m waiting for my results to come out so I can start my internship. But life as I know it has changed! Because at that moment, I realised as women, we’re always asked to choose between our professional & personal lives.
But look at me, the 8YO girl who looked at lab coats & stethoscopes in awe, wore that on top of her 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗹 outfit & became a doctor AND a wife on the same day!”
