Lady Shares How Her Family Spent More Than 500K On Uber First Two Weeks In The US, Warns That Staying Mobile Is A Challenge When You Don’t Have A Car

A young lady named Chinonye Uchenna Madu on Facebook has shared the challenges her family encountered the first two weeks of relocating to the US.

Chinonye noted that the city they lived in was not a bus oriented area and so they spent more than 500k on Uber transport in just two weeks.

She admonishes those planning relocation about the challenges of moving abroad says it’s hard In the initial stage to stay mobile to destinations.

In her words:

“When we first moved to the US, it was a whole lot of stress with being mobile.
We didn’t have a car 🚗 and the city we lived in Sante Fe New Mexico isn’t a bus 🚌 oriented area. So it was almost Uber everywhere.

I remember we downloaded the Uber app and was paying in naira, because we didn’t have a bank card as at that time. Every trip made, it was deducted from naira account haaaaa 😂😂😂😂😂. In two weeks we spent more than 500k plus on Uber and you know we newly moved and so many paperwork to be done alongside registration. It wasn’t funny.

Anyways we started making inquiries on how to get a vehicle, at least something to help us commute to places. We also finally got our bank card and they started taking fee in dollars 💵.

One challenge you would face moving abroad initially is the ability to stay mobile to your destination. It takes a while to get settled if you moved with your permanent resident card and takes even longer if you went as a student or some other kind of Visas.

It’s been a mixed kind of life moving here, life isn’t perfect, but we’re grateful for everything”.
