Lady Recounts How She Was Humiliated In Primary School With Throwback Photo

In her words;

“Childhood photo😔 I want to use this medium to tell a story that happened while I was 5/6yrs old cause i have not been able to heal from it. It’s been about 25yrs.

I was a pupil of Okugbe primary school, it was a government owned primary school in Ekpan, Delta state.

I was in primary 1 and my seatmate/friend’s name was Edesiri (real name cause I am hoping she sees this). We were asked to pay #150 for exam levy as it was called then and my mum couldn’t raise the money on time.

Edesiri’s mum gave her the money but she was scared to go to the teacher and begged me to go instead. I took the money, went to our teacher and gave it to her without telling her it belongs to Edesiri. I didn’t know I was suppose to do that😔

Later that week, they started sending kids home for the levy as we were already approaching exam week and Edesiri was sent home. I was too scared to go explain to the teacher as I know flogging is sure.

Her mother came to school to ask why and that was when they asked Edesiri what happened to her fee and she said she gave it to me to pay for her. Her mother refused and said i stole her daughter’s levy.

My mum was invited and when it was confirmed she did not give me any money to pay, Edesiri’s mum called my mum the mother of a thief and the teacher flogged me in presence of my mum and the whole class.

My mum took me home and asked which I explained exactly what we already said in school, my mum believed me but even as a child, I felt the sting of being called a thief and the insult meted out on my mum.

Edesiri, if you ever see this, go remind your mum and tell her exactly what happened that day as an adult.”
