“I Didn’t Even Know We Had Money Till I Was Like 21, To Be Honest With You. “- Davido’s Sister Sharon Opens Up On Family Wealth

Sharon Adeleke, the elder sister of Nigerian singer Davido, disclosed that she was about 21 years old when she realised her father, businessman Adedeji Adeleke, was wealthy.

During a podcast appearance, Sharon explained that despite growing up comfortably, she lived a relatively normal life and worked from a young age to earn her own money.

Speaking about her upbringing, she said: “I didn’t even know we had money till I was like 21, to be honest with you. That’s when I moved to Nigeria.

I lived a very normal life, outside of my schools. I’ve always worked. I’ve always had a job, even when I was in high school, because I wanted to have five pounds a week. I used to clean the changing rooms. I’ve always worked because my dad would give you just enough.

We had money to do stuff, but it was very normal. It was not like what people see now, out of the ordinary. There was no PJ. There was no G-Wagon. It was normal. It was above average. Yes, we all had a nice room and a nice house, but it was not something that I felt like, ‘Oh my gosh, you are rich.’ I never grew up that way.

Up until my senior year of college, I was a professional babysitter. And so this is why I know stuff. This is why I started the crèche because I’d actually been a caretaker for kids for like five years.

So I feel like it was when I came to Nigeria that people now kind of started being like, ‘Oh, you know, you guys have bread.’ And so when I was like, ‘Do we have money?’ Like, he was just like, what did he say? But have you not heard David say this before? He doesn’t say that. No, he just doesn’t answer the question. My dad is just a very chill person. I don’t know how to explain it. It’s not that he didn’t answer the question, but he didn’t say yes, we have money. But to my kids, he’d be like, yes, tell them you’re a boss, you’re rich. I said, Daddy, 30BG has entered your spirit.”
