‘I Almost Didn’t Accept The Offer”- Lady Celebrates 8 Years Of Working At Amazon

A lady named Angelina Howard is celebrating 8 years of working at Amazon, she explained why she almost rejected the offer years ago.

Sharing a lengthy post on LinkedIn, she wrote:

Today is my 8 year Amaversary at Amazon / Amazon Web Services (AWS)! To think I almost didn’t accept the offer.

I turned down my summer internship offer. Not because I didn’t like the company but I didn’t think I would be on the right path for my long-term career goals. I didn’t have a 4.0 and I was shifting my focus from finance to supply chain management in my senior year.

A lot of people told me that I should accept the internship because it will be hard for me to land another job offer. God had different plans for me; I stepped out on faith.

I entered my final semester of college without an offer. I had a phone screen with Amazon in January and thought I bombed it. I was surprised when I heard back from the interviewer that they wanted to fly me to Seattle for a final interview (the same week the Seahawks beat the Broncos #awkward). I started the year with no offers. By mid-February I had three offers, including one from Amazon. I was excited but nervous at the same time because I didn’t want to leave my mom.

Bill Shuster and Brian Fugate spent so much time talking through the decision with me. I ultimately made the decision to join Amazon. I have never regretted this decision.

Fast forward to 8 years later! I have worked on four different teams, worked in three different job functions, conducted Kaizens with your favorite consumer electronics/gaming companies to improve inbound logistics, supported the first Prime Day, launched new Microsoft devices on Amazon, launched CX products to help consumers buy video games, launched a physical on-demand product, created and launched DEI programs for the Black community including the BEN Scholarship, BEN Rise Leadership Program, Grants for Black owned restaurants, and BEN Startup Week, interviewed two Amazon CEOs (still in awe) and now I am the product lead for new AWS services within the #sustainability industry.

I have gained lifelong friends and mentors that have truly changed my life. I have earned a seat at the “highest” of tables to advocate for change internally and externally. A special shoutout to my sister, friend, and mentor Rovina Valashiya. I would not have made it this far without you!

I trusted that God had a plan and didn’t let other people influence me. I am so happy that I did. As we like to say, it is Always Day 1!
