How Shina Peters Started Performing At 10, Bought His First Car At 13, Fathered A Child At 14 And Built His First House By 16

Veteran jùjú musician, Oluwashina Akanbi Peters, popularly known as Sir Shina Peters, has stated on The Honest Bunch Podcast that his musical journey began at an exceptionally young age.

According to him, he started performing at 10, bought his first car at 13, fathered a child at 14 and built his first house by 16.

“I built my first house at the age of 16, and I’ve been going to High Courts here and there because 65% of my fans are Igbo,” Sir Shina stated during the interview.

His comments quickly stirred conversations on X, with users questioning the accuracy of the timeline, particularly as his son, Clarence Peters, was born in 1983 when Shina was 25. Others, however, defended the jùjú legend, citing his well-documented early achievements and wide-reaching influence across ethnic lines in the 1980s.

The interview reignited discussions on Sir Shina Peters’ legacy as one of Nigeria’s most influential musicians, whose cross-cultural appeal helped shape the country’s modern music landscape.
