Capt abimbola jaiyeola

When news that a Bristow helicopter had crashed reached the public and we were all sent into a panic. We found out that the 5B BJQ Bristow helicopter that was headed to Lagos from Port Harcourt had ended up “ditching” into the Atlantic Ocean. The memory of the Bristow crash which claimed lives was still fresh in our memory.

Hours later, we heaved a sigh of relief as we found out that all 11 people on the helicopter were safe.

Well it turns out that the person who saved the day is no one but the young female helicopter captain who was on duty on that day – Capt Abimbola Jaiyeola

Abimbola Jaiyeola, who also happens to be Nigeria’s first female helicopter captain, made the split-second decision that saved the lives of those who were on board.

This was revealed via a facebook post by someone who is close to the captain but wanted it to be “private”

“Let’s celebrate and thank God for our Female Capt Abimbola Jayeola, who was the Capt on the Bristow Chopper that ditched in the Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday. “A split second’s decision saved the lives of 13 people and several families linked to them. Kudos to You Skipper, God will continue to protect you as you take to the skies daily. Stay safe!”

Indeed the Capt Abimbola’s decision of ditching into the Atlantic Ocean saved the lives of those on board.

Ditching is a planned event in which a flight crew knowingly makes a controlled emergency landing in water.

Skybrary.com says that ditching “may be extremely hazardous” but Capt Jaiyeola saved the day!

Long live the Captain!
