‘God Should’ve Taken Me Instead’ — Niniola Says In Emotional Post About Husband’s Death
Niniola Apata, the Nigerian songstress, says God “should have taken” her instead of Michael Ndika, her late husband, who died in May.
In a string of posts on her Instagram story, the singer said God “decided to flex muscles” despite having the power to spare Ndika’s life
Niniola announced her husband’s death on May 20, but the circumstances surrounding it were not disclosed.
Burial arrangements released by the family include a service of songs scheduled for June 4, followed by interment on June 5.
In the new social media posts, Niniola shared photos from their court wedding in the US while saying, “I cannot live without Michael”.
She expressed overwhelming grief, saying she would have preferred to suffer physical loss or even die herself rather than her husband, whom she described as the “one person that made my life worth it”.
She also reflected on their quiet life together, alleging that fate took her partner despite their peaceful relationship, and expressed anger and anguish over the loss.
“I cannot live without Michael. God, you could’ve taken my kidney, an arm or a leg. You should’ve even taken me instead, but that one person that made my life worth it, you took away from me,” she wrote.
“We did not disturb anybody, just living lives on our own terms. What a jealous God you truly are because you had the power to spare him but decided to flex muscles. Kukumo, finish what you started na, I’m ready.”
The singer had earlier spoken about Ndika’s influence on her music career, describing him as the “engine” behind her success.
