Former bus driver graduates with 3.91 GPA from the University of Ghana

Jacob Semekor Mordzifa, a former commercial bus driver popularly known as ‘trotro’ has made impressive strides as one of the best graduating students at the University of Ghana in the November 2019 congregation ceremonies.

Jacob, 34, gained admission to the University of Ghana in 2015. Universnewsroom reports that having obtained an average score of (FGPA) of 3.91, Jacob Semekor Mordzifa is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in geography and resource development.

Ten years ago, Mordzifa, was accepted into the University of Ghana after he completed high school at Sogakope Senior High School (SHS) but was unable to enroll due to financial setbacks.

Mordzifa reveals that he got admission in 2005 but there was no money but held on to hope to get into the university when he becomes all set. “My driving force was the fact that out of a non-educated family of 21, with 6 wives to my dad, I could be the one to go to school and bring some light to the house,”

Mordzifa said. However, a determined Mordzifa got a job to save money to enable him fund his education. He used monies he saved up from his bus business to fund his education at the Akropong-Akuapem Teacher Training College. In 2015, Mordzifa, used the money he had saved from his allowance from the Training College to purchase forms and even tied the knot with his fiancée in an adorable marriage ceremony while in his second year at the university. Despite the challenge of combining his education with work and marriage, Mordzifa is graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in geography and resource development at the University of Ghana.
