2019 BBNaija star, Khafi Kareem, recently left many fans and followers in shock after she opened up about being sexually abused by a man whose identity she kept hidden.

Joining the many women online who gave reasons why they didn’t report their abusers, the reality star and brand influencer recounted that he apologized immediately after.

She also stated that even when she opened up to someone about it, she was blamed for being sexually abused and this made her feel dirty and ashamed.

She tweeted: “#WhyIDidntReport – because he apologised right after. Because I made myself believe him being drunk was an excuse. Because the one person I did tell said I caused it. Because I felt dirty and ashamed. #WeAreTired” It didn’t take long before the post gained traction on the micro-blogging platform.

While many people sympathized with her, others were curious about whether the story she shared was from a personal experience or not. Confirming it was in fact her story, she responded to a fan: “Yes this did happen to me. I’m sharing in the hope that others will feel no shame in sharing what happened to them.

Please don’t deflect or say it is not my story when it was already hard enough sharing it.”
