“As He Was Leaving The Campus That Day, He Rejected All The Gifts That The School Management Presented To Him, For Him, The Students Need The Gifts More Than He Does”- Nigerian Man Praises Peter Obi, Recounts When He Visited Madonna University As A Gov Year 2007, Wishes Him Happy Birthday
Nigerian man named Chukwudi Iwuchukwu on Facebook has shared his encounter with Peter Obi years ago as he wishes him a happy birthday.
In his words:
“The year was 2007, and I was still an undergraduate law student of Madonna University, Okija.
We were told that Mr. Peter Obi, who was then the governor of Anambra State, was coming to the university campus in Okija, Anambra State.
We had not met him before, and so we were expecting to see the august visitor of the university with a large convoy of cars, befitting a governor, as expected.
We were then shocked to see the person we were expecting arrived with a convoy of only 3 cars, without a siren, noise, or fanfare.
I looked at my brother and friend Gozy Egbuna, who was seated close to me in shock, to ask
“Are you sure this is the governor we have been expecting since morning?”
It turned out it was him, and that was the first shocker of the kind of person he is.
A man of modest means who practices what he preaches
The session with him was engaging and reverent as he reminded students why they have to be a good role model for the next generation.
In his words, “ The society we abuse today will take its revenge on our children tomorrow”
As he was leaving the campus that day, he rejected all the gifts that the school management presented to him.
For him, the students need the gifts more than he does because he is a sitting governor, and the gift should be shared with students.
That was the vintage Peter Obi, and my first impression of him
19 years after, he has not changed, and he is still the same man.
Happy birthday to the man of the people, Mr. Peter Obi, a man that inspires a whole generation to do right and live right because the society we are abusing today will take his revenge on our children tomorrow if we don’t do the right thing.”
