23-Year-Old Ndavi Nokeri, Becomes Newly Crowned Miss South Africa 2022, Says
She Aims To Empower Learners In Underprivileged Schools

The 23-year-old hails from Gabaza village in Tzaneen, she aims to empower learners in underprivileged schools in South Africa through education and skills development.

“I’m passionate about bridging the education inequality gap in South Africa. My passion was sparked after witnessing the gaps between schools in the village and the well-resourced schools in town, which I was fortunate to attend.

My peers in the village were not exposed to the same opportunities and conducive environment I was, limiting their potential to achieve their ambitions.

I think that it is fundamental for every child to be given an equal opportunity to cultivate their talents, intelligence and skills,” said Ndavi Nokeri.

She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in Investment Management from the University of Pretoria (UP).

In 2019, she was crowned Miss Jozi, a pageant that inspired her to be an active citizen in society.

On 13 August 2022, she was crowned Miss South Africa, becoming the first Tsonga woman to be Miss South Africa.

“For a girl from Gabaza to be seen, embraced and chosen to represent her country is a groundbreaking moment. A moment that reaffirms that our dreams are valid, regardless of where we come from. I am grateful for the women who have gone before me who broke the glass ceilings so I could stand here today empowered, fulfilled and ready to proudly raise the South African flag up high everywhere I go and to shine the light of hope to all South Africans,” said Ndavi Nokeri.
