2027 Elections: Do I Look 80? I Am Fit — Atiku Tells Those Concerned About His Age

African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed concerns about his age ahead of the 2027 presidential election, insisting that he remains fit and capable of providing effective leadership.

Atiku made the remark while responding to a BBC Hausa interviewer who questioned whether his age could affect his ability to lead if elected, noting that he would be almost 80 by the time Nigerians vote in 2027.

Atiku fired back: “Do I look to you like someone who has reached 80 years of age?”

He then referenced President Bola Tinubu’s age, saying: “You went and voted for someone who is 80, I mean 90 years old. How old is President Bola, 90?”

After the interviewer corrected him that Tinubu was not yet 80, Atiku responded:“Do I look to you like someone who has reached 80 years of age?”

His comment prompted a reaction from Reno Omokri, Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua, who shared a photograph of Tinubu with media personality Dele Momodu taken in London in 1996.

Omokri argued that if Tinubu were indeed 90, as alleged, he would have been 60 when the photograph was taken.

He wrote: “If Asiwaju is indeed 90 years old, as recently alleged, then Dele Momodu must be in his eighties.”

Meanwhile, Atiku also rejected claims that he had become an obstacle to the opposition coalition, insisting that he was the one who initiated the alliance.

“That is a baseless accusation levelled against me. I was actually the one who initiated the coalition. Nobody else. I, Atiku Abubakar, started it.”
