
“19 Years Ago, I Saw A Chess Board For The First Time”-Tunde Onakoya Goes Down Memory Lane As He Plays Chess In The Heart Of Time’s Square New York City USA
Tunde Onakoya is a Nigerian chess master, coach and founder of Chess in Slums Africa.
He has organized a number of interventions for children across slums in Lagos state including Majidun (Ikorodu), Makoko and recently, Oshodi. The children are engaged in a two-week session that seeks to unlock their potential through the game of chess while learning to read, write and acquire basic literacy skills.
The Chess Master recently visited the US and he went down memory lane while sharing a throwback back photo, he narrated briefly how he saw chess for the first time at a barbing shop, today he’s playing chess at the heart of time square at New York City USA.
