‘We Will Use Our Hands To Spoil This Detty December’: Laura Ikeji Reacts As Cost Of Braiding Increases From N70K To N250K

Beauty entrepreneur Laura Ikeji Kanu has stirred conversations online following a new video in which she warned that Nigerians may eventually ruin the annual “Detty December” celebrations through excessive price hikes.

In the viral clip, Laura Ikeji expressed concern over the rising cost of goods and services during the festive period, noting that the sharp increase often has no relationship with quality or value.

According to her, this trend could soon make Detty December unattractive and unsustainable.

Sharing a personal experience, the younger sister of billionaire blogger Linda Ikeji revealed that before she travelled out of Nigeria a few weeks ago, she braided her hair for ₦70,000. However, after sending a customer who purchased hair from her to the same braider, she was shocked to hear that the price had jumped to ₦250,000, with the increase being blamed on Detty December.

Reacting to the incident, Laura openly expressed her displeasure, accusing some Nigerian business owners of greed. She stressed that Nigerians in the diaspora are not endlessly wealthy, but individuals who work and save from January to December before returning home to spend time and money with family and friends.

Laura Ikeji concluded by describing the exploitation as unfair, urging business owners to rethink their approach, as such practices could ultimately discourage visitors and harm the festive season Nigeria is widely known for.

Shedding more light, Laura Ikeji noted that Airbnb is the reason house rent is on the rise in Nigeria.

She further noted that once Airbnb operators begin charging as high as ₦100,000 per day, landlords in Nigeria quickly follow suit by increasing house rents as well.
