Simi Opens Up On Pregnancy, Illness Behind Delayed Song Release

Nigerian singer Simi has revealed that her newly released song ‘Where You Dey’ featuring Chike, was recorded and completed during a deeply challenging period in her life, marked by illness and pregnancy.

In an emotional message shared on Instagram, the singer explained that she had planned to release the song last year after dropping an early snippet, but her health deteriorated, leaving her weak, nauseous, and exhausted.

“I was sick and weak and nauseous and tired, and my body just wouldn’t do what I wanted it to,” she wrote, adding that even while filming the snippet video, she was struggling physically.

Simi disclosed that Chike recorded his verse without knowing she was pregnant at the time. She praised his commitment and said watching the old studio footage now surprises her, as she can hardly understand where the strength to work came from.

She also shared that after the song was completed, she lacked the energy to mix and promote it properly, eventually mastering it herself despite disliking the process.

The singer admitted she was disappointed about missing her intended deadline and being unable to create content around the track, despite how much the song meant to her.

However, she expressed pride in the resilience behind the project, noting that the song was created with “a lot of love and resilience.”

Simi used the moment to address speculation about her career, saying the release proves she has not abandoned music.
