A Nigerian sickle cell warrior identified as Devaan has narrated the story of her journey to adulthood despite what doctors believed. The woman shared her story on the popular micro-blogging platform, Twitter.

The woman explained that she was used to being sick as a child and she had even thought all children had a similar experience. She said growing up doctors told her parents that she would not make it to 20.

Devaan noted that she is now in her 40s and she is a wife and a mom. She said if her parents were alive they would have been grandparents.

The woman further explained that she never hated or resented her parents for having her. She noted that despite the pains and tears she is glad to be alive.

According to her, she would pick being sickle cell over some other health challenge. The lady also advised young adults to be careful when selecting a partner, she asked them to know their genotype early and that of their potential partner.

She, however, noted that people who found out that they are not compatible late should also make informed decisions.
