
She’s A Bone Cancer Survivor And Registered Nurse From Botswana, Meet Chaikhwa Nani Lobatse
In 2013, she was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) that culminated in the above knee amputation of her left leg to stop the cancer spread, which was followed by months of chemotherapy and its side effects.
Against all odds, Chaikhwa obtained a Higher Diploma in General Nursing from Francistown Institute of Health Sciences in 2013; followed by a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Nursing Science and a Certificate in HIV/AIDS Care & Counseling from the University of South Africa in 2019.
In 2021, she was awarded the prestigious Chevening scholarship on her my first attempt to study towards a Master of Science (MSc) in Clinical Oncology from the University of Birmingham, UK.
“As the saying goes, ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’… I not only consider my self a cancer survivor but an activist fighting for other patients through my work as a nurse,” said Chaikhwa Nani Lobatse.
