Omotola Donates ‘Mother’s Love’ Proceeds To Fund Slum Children’s Education
Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, the Nigerian actress, says the proceeds from her directorial debut ‘Mother’s Love’ will be donated to the educational charity Slum2School Africa.
The movie star announced the decision at the recent private screening of the movie.
Omotola confirmed that all income generated for her production company Redhot Concepts from the film’s theatrical run will go directly “to advance access to education”.
The movie, she explained, is deeply aligned with the cause, as it “shines light into the universal truth that transcends geography”.
“Today I stand before you and I am honoured to announce that a 100% of the production company’s proceeds from the theatrical release of ‘Mother’s Love’ will be donated to advancing the access to education. It will be handed over to Slum2School,” she said.
“For more than three decades, my work in film has allowed me to tell stories that travel far beyond the screen. Yet, alongside that journey my humanitarian advocacy has reminded me that stories are not merely narratives, they are mirrors reflecting the realities of our world.
“Set between the beautiful and very important community of Makoko, a community in Lagos, shines light into the universal truth that transcends geography.”
‘Mother’s Love’ first premiered last year at the 50th anniversary of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it generated significant buzz on social media.
It tells the story of Labake, a woman who must rely on her wisdom and vision to hold her family together as it faces the threat of disintegration.
The narrative centres on Labake’s fierce love for her husband Rotimi and her daughter Adebisi.
The plot deepens when Adebisi, who has lived a privileged and affluent life, leaves home for the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
There, she meets Obaro, a fellow corps member, and her world is turned upside down. Adebisi’s relationship with Obaro introduces the film’s central conflict: a clash of economic and social classes.
The film stars a talented cast including Olumide Oworu, Ifeanyi Kalu, and Noray Nehita.
