Nigerian Man Recounts Growing Up Without A T.V, Says His Classmates Were His Netflix ,Today The Story Has Changed As He Can Afford Everything
Nigerian man named Toyyib Adewale Adelodun has shared his tough memories growing up.
Toyyib recounts growing up without a tv and how his classmates were his Netflix, he watched them describe Mortal Kombat battles and TV shows he had never seen, says he watched through their eyes.
Toyyib noted that the first lesson his parents ever taught him was contentment. Today the story has changed as Toyyib can now afford everything he lacked growing up and his proudest moment was inviting his parents to the UK for vacation.
In his words:
“They described Mortal Kombat battles and TV shows I had never seen. I watched through their eyes, like my own Gogglebox.
And that was enough entertainment.
The first lesson my parents ever taught me was contentment.
Mum would say in Yoruba: “Okele gbigbe pelu itelorun”, even if your swallow has no soup, eat it with gratitude.
So when others had Milo and milk at boarding school and I only had garri, I was not ashamed. I believed my time would come.
Contentment did not kill ambition. It fueled it.
We believed that one day, if we kept working hard, Milo and milk would be part of our diet. That TV set we never had would come.
Life is in stages. Everyone starts from a different place, so don’t compare.
And as the wisdom goes, “Slowly is the fastest way” especially if you come from nothing.
The day we took our parents on their first ever holiday remains one of the proudest moments of my life.
With patience, perseverance, and positivity, you will not be denied the good things of life by God’s grace.
Share this with someone who needs the reminder that patience and perseverance still work.
