Nigerian Lady Who Had 50 Rejections Email, Bags Global Scholarship After 7 Years

As shared by Eboye Ruth on LinkedIn. Ruth recounts how she graduated from Delta State University with first class in year 2018. After many rejection emails, Ruth was persistent, and In April 2024, she got another admission offer without funding, which broke her down as she felt like giving up.

Ruth who has been selected as the ONLY Nigerian for the 2025 EMJMDPHID – EMA (Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Public Health in Disasters) program, studying across 3 countries in Europe, has taken time to share the steps she took before finally succeeding in her career.

In her words:

“I thought my dream of studying abroad on a fully funded scholarship was finally within reach.

Not after graduating from Delta State University, Nigeria as the only female First Class Student in my department in 2018. But I guess life had other plans.

From admission without funding to generic rejection emails and lots of silences after interviews. I asked myself countless times, is there something wrong with me?

In April 2024, after yet another admission offer without funding, I broke down. I felt like giving up.

But then… a spark!

A colleague mentioned her sister had just won the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship. That tiny conversation became my turning point.

I said to myself, I can’t wait this long and settle for less, it’s either a global fully funded scholarship or nothing!

This Time, I Did Everything Differently.
No Holding Back.

I realized I had been giving less and hoping my First Class would “speak for itself.”

So this time, I went all in:
✅ Took IELTS in 2024 (scored 7.0/9.0)
✅ Volunteered more and led several public health projects
✅ Joined Erasmus-Mundus Nigeria groups and reached out to past scholars on LinkedIn
✅ Built an Europass CV with links to photos and videos of my projects, and took over 30 relevant online courses with certifications
✅ Submitted 4 references as against a minimum of 2 required (2 academic, 2 professional)
✅ Uploaded detailed PDFs of my projects, just in case they didn’t click the links ☺️

I was ready this time. And then, I got the interview invite.

I prepped like never before, watched YouTube videos, reviewed possible questions, and even researched professors in the program.

Today, I Can Finally Say… I Made It! 🙌🏻

I was selected as the ONLY Nigerian for the 2025 EMJMDPHID – EMA (Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Public Health in Disasters) program, studying across 3 countries in Europe.

Indeed… God is a rewarder”.
