Nigerian Lady Based In UK Shares How A Young Man Who Assisted Her Husband When He Was Broke, Reached Out To Them For Financial Help And Their Response Was Swift
A young Nigerian lady named Sonia Diarie on Facebook has gone down memory lane remembering hard days after a Nigerian man who assisted them financially reached out to them for financial help.
Sonia recounts how there was a time they
ran out of everything: diapers, milk, even Bournvita. and had to improvise using their child’s last diaper for days, because her husband was broke. They later went shopping on credit and this same man was the one who offered to clear their bills
In her words:
“After we moved to the UK, someone from home reached out to my husband for financial help. Funny thing is—this same person had never really asked before, even though my husband had often checked on them or sent support now and then.
But this call felt different.
When my husband called to tell me about it, he started with,
“You remember that person I told you about, when I said…”
I didn’t even let him finish.
I knew exactly who he meant.
It was a memory we both carry close—
Our son was just a few months old.
We had run out of everything: diapers, milk, even Bournvita. That night, we used his very last diaper, and for days before that, we had been using Bournvita because we couldn’t afford baby milk.
We were broke.
My husband, with nothing in hand, decided to go and buy baby supplies on credit, hoping to pay later. When he got to the shop, some guys were hanging around—including this person.
With hesitation, he quietly explained our situation to the shopkeeper, a kind woman. She agreed to sell to him on credit. But just before the transaction was completed, the person overheard.
He asked how much my husband owed—and he paid it all.
No questions, no judgment.
That act of kindness came at one of the lowest points of our lives. He didn’t owe us anything. He didn’t even need to listen. But he did.
So yes, when that same person called years later and needed help…
We didn’t think twice.
Because gratitude doesn’t expire.
Sometimes, the people who help you when no one else knows you’re struggling… are the ones God truly sent your way.”
