My Big Problem With Jealousy in This Industry- Priscilla Ojo Talks Jealousy, Handling Negativity

Nigerian influencer and actress, Priscilla Ojo is well known for being the daughter of Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo as well as being part of The Geng.

She is also one of the more popular faces in the Nigerian Gen Z community.

Priscilla has been able to enjoy fame and success at quite a young age, but just because her life online looks glamorous, it does not mean that there isn’t sometimes drama happening behind the scenes.

During a new interview with The Will Downtown, Priscilla Ojo opened up about the problem of jealousy in the media industry, and also spoke candidly about how she navigates sexism and ageism as a young woman in the industry. Here is what Priscilla Ojo said.

During the interview, Priscilla Ojo was asked “In your opinion, what are the biggest challenges facing the media industry today?” to which she responded:

PRISCILLA OJO: Compared to other nations, advancement in the media sector is hampered by a lack of individual collaboration and support. To encourage our collective growth, we should work to connect, cooperate, and support one another. The industry, regrettably, frequently exhibits jealousy and hostility. From a larger viewpoint, mental health is a serious issue, especially for people in the public eye. It’s difficult to dismiss criticism and maintain concentration when continuously exposed to public opinion. However, as professionals in the field, we are responsible for navigating and overcoming the difficulties that come with our chosen career path.

When asked “As a young woman in the media industry, how do you navigate potential challenges such as sexism and ageism?” Priscilla spoke candidly saying:

PRISCILLA OJO: I am so focused on my brand; I try not to focus on negativity and bad comments like “she is too young,” “she is not supposed to dress this way,” “she is not supposed to do this”, “she is not supposed to do that”, or “guys are supposed to be the one doing major things in the industry” and all that. Despite all these comments, I see myself as a young, independent, and hardworking lady, so I focus on that and don’t let any side comments or challenges affect me because I have my goal, which is to make money, to work hard, to be myself and to love what I do.
