Mum’s Biggest Concern Is That I Hold On To God – Ayra Starr

Popular singer, Ayra Starr, has revealed how her mother continues to influence her life and career, emphasising the importance of staying grounded in faith.

In a recent interview with New York–based radio station, Hot 97, the ‘Comma’ hitmaker explained that her mother constantly reminds her to remain connected to God and trust His promises for her life.

“I think her number one concern is me just holding on to God and not departing from His word and His promises for my life. She’s always reminding me of the things God has said about my life and where I’m going. She knows everything. She’s part of my whole life,” she said.

Reflecting on her move to New York, the singer admitted she was unprepared for the city’s harsh winter.

“Nobody told me it was going to be that cold. I was not warned at all. I was just like, ‘I’m moving to New York.’ I couldn’t even go out. I was just inside my apartment with no furniture. It was good, though. It got me hungry,” she recalled.

Ayra Starr also shared the inspiration behind her track, ‘Where Do We Go From Here’, describing it as a release from a complicated friendship.

“It was more like having a friend with a repetitive toxic cycle.”

I trauma-dumped in that song. I was just trauma-dumping, and now I am over it,” she explained.

On personal relationships, Starr said she prefers to keep her private life private.

“To be honest, that’s between the person and me. I’m always the one trying to keep everything on the low because of my life. I just don’t want people knowing about my business. First of all, don’t even do that. Learn from me: keep it on the low, make sure no one knows, and don’t get to the point where you’re asking, ‘Where do we go from here?’”
