Meet Kehinde Samuel Omojowo, a
web developer with over 8 years of experience who has been involved in building several online startup projects, he has also built over 300 websites. An entrepreneur, he’s the founder of
MyJola, a company that provides cross border payment solution for businesses and Individuals around the world. He speaks to Elorasblog in this interview.

Please tell us a little bit about your background?

My names are Kehinde Samuel Omojowo, I grew up in a family of 3, a twin and I hail from Ilaje, Ondo state, Nigeria. I am web developer with over 8 years of experience and have been involved in building several online startup projects including PropertyTrade, TeraHealth, VTUplug, GabosExchange and have built over 300 website and still counting. I graduated from Don Bosco Institute of Technology, Ghana in 2014 with National Vocational Technical Institute degree in computer technology and other degrees.

What motivated you to start up MyJolaPay.com?

In 2011, when I moved to Ghana without knowing anyone, I met a Taxi driver call Nana Yaa, he assisted me with accommodation to stay in his place when I was stranded, I tried to get in touch with my friends to send me money from Nigeria to Ghana, there was a big challenge and it was only ECO BANK that offers this service yet the process is crazy.

2016, I began to think of how to make cross border payment from Nigeria to Ghana a bit flexible, in 2019 I finally concluded on how to make it work. The process did not work as I tried to connect Bureau De Change merchants to customers who wants to exchange making it look like the P2P money exchange. In 2020 I chanced the model and here we are today, accepting Naira payments for several African Businesses / Individual while we pay them in their local currency.

How did you come up with this business idea?

I have used several apps that does this solution and noticed several difficulties, some takes several business days to deliver equivalents, high and exchange rates, these are reasons that prompt me to build this platform.

Did you develop the app yourself?

I developed this app together with my Twin brother – Taiwo Omojowo Olawale

Did you attend any form of training before setting up this business?

I read more online and did not attend any training.

Many young youths like you have business ideas but raising capital is the challenge, how were you able to raise capital for your business?

I started by using my personal funds generated from being a Freelancer until the LOAN feature in the MyJola app got a LOAN Investment in 2021 from AFRO FINANCIALS of N50,000,000 (Fifty Million Naira) that remits 5% monthly to the Investor till date.

MyJolaPay.com helps businesses outside Nigeria to accept payment in Naira and get paid in their local currency. Money transactions can be risky, how can your clients build their trust in your services?

At the moment, we are registered business and in partnership with several payment companies to make sure funds are secured. Customers’ feedback from our over 5,000 customers has been supportive too.

Can you share with me the setbacks and challenges you’ve encountered in this business?

Wow! I said wow because, I have failed, lost money, got sick and tired but did not give up.

Key challenges that has been put to consideration is SECURITY.

How do you make profits from this services?

We make profit helping customers checkout on ecommerce, online apps seamlessly without error in payment.

What are the best remarks you’ve ever gotten from your customers?

A customer once said, MyJola is the best he has ever used compared to a bigger competitor I won’t like to mention and I was extremely excited I solved a problem.
