Builds His Own Brand, Named Astro Mobile, Meet Munyaradzi Gwatidzo

Munyaradzi Gwatidzo is the Chief Executive Officer of Astro Technology Group.

He was very interested in electronics and would collect broken and discarded phones out of the litter. With three siblings to care for, Gwatidzo taught himself to repair phones.

He started purchasing damaged phones, fixed them & resold them. He took that a notch up and started doing it in Zambia.

Things got a bit better because he would get payments in USD – he even went to enrol for a Computer Science degree.

He then went on to become a co-founder of G-tide, but later on left.

After buying, repairing and selling mobile phones in neighboring Zambia for a few years, Gwatidzo then seized the opportunity in 2011 to build his own brand, Astro Mobile.

Today the company sells well over 4 million mobile phones annually across 5 countries.

Astro is a large ecommerce company and a mobile and electronic solutions provider with branches in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania South Africa.

The company have plans to establish a television manufacturing plant projected to employ over one thousand employees.
