Read her post below as shared on LinkedIn:

Both my parents were educators that believed & advocated for access to education for all and used their resources to educate others.

Both my parents passed away before I could get any degrees. My mother at 11 months old & my dad at 17 (1st year of undergrad), but I undoubtedly come from a legacy of educators whose activism & passion for education empowerment I effortlessly carry with me.

I want to believe they can cheer me on somehow; as such, I dedicate my MPA/SJ to my mother, who I never got a chance to know but I have learned was a fierce advocate. My Ph.D. journey will be for my Dad, who never stopped learning and passed away pursuing a graduate degree.

I am doing this for me but also my parents. You ain’t seen nothing like me yet.
