Just now, Facebook reminded me of a post that I made exactly 8 years ago when I failed my nursing council examination. I was totally devastated and couldn’t relate why I had to be a failure despite all the hustles and struggles to become educated.
I really couldn’t bear it as I had to withdraw from the 25k job that was feeding me and my family then, to return to school for 6 months, for the retake of my failed course.
I’m forever grateful to my mum, who was my source of encouragement. She told me, ” You have to go back and take that course, get your certificate, and make me proud.”
I remember her telling me that I’m not a failure despite being weeded away from eleyele school of nursing then. I told her I was not interested in education no more, and I only wanted to learn fashion designing and be self-employed, but she asked me if I was truly still interested in studying nursing? Yes, of course (I really wanted to, but I could read her purse). Then, she said, ” You will learn that skill and get your nursing certificate as well.”
With so much persuasion, I decided to give it another shot, and then I failed again. I summoned the courage and went back to school. Oh, the humiliation was out of this world. It was the most horrible period of my life, but I kept going, covering the shame with fake smiles.
….
Today, I count my achievements, and I’m nothing short of grateful 🙏 to God. This time, one year ago, my family relocated to the UK. I bagged my masters degree, had my 2nd baby in between, and got a job with the NHS Trust as an international nurse.
What I learnt so far during this journey is that
You can’t question how and where you were born, but you can decide who and what you want to become
I have failed over and over again. Being in this place where I am now made me realise that “failure is part of the journey to success.” And you can never rule it out. Also, there is no shortcut to success
You aren’t in no competition with any one because, even if you run the same race, your goals are different and you are arriving at different destinations, but let your goals drive you that it makes you sleepless.
Being born poor is not your choice, but remaining poor or becoming successful is your decision.
Finally, be grateful for all the occurrences in your life; the good and the bad. Be hopeful for the best. Keep pushing your goals even if nobody believes in you, keeping in mind that sooner or later, you will achieve them.
Always remember that there is no successful person without a failure story.
