Lady Who Dropped Out Of Sch 3 Times, Finally Succeeds As She Graduates, Says “My life Was Never Easy, But I Chose To Keep Fighting”

Kholofelo Makofane says:

“Today I can finally share my story…

2002 when I was 12 I slipped and fell out of a bus as it was about to stop. As I fell out, the bus stopped right on top of my foot.

After 7 operations, months in hospital and wheelchair bound, I had to learn how to walk again. I couldn’t play sport or wear a normal shoe for many years. I was bullied so much that I chose to hide it as much as possible.

I healed physically but psychologically I was broken. Suffering in silence I resorted to being a very rebellious teenager.

By the time I was 17 I fell pregnant with my son and gave birth before I turned 18. I went back to complete my matric when he was just 2 weeks old. I passed my matric that year.

2009 I enrolled at TUT to study Land Surveying, I dropped out by the end of the year. I couldn’t manage with simple practical’s we did, as I cannot walk too far distances because of my previous injury.

2010 I chose to study a Diploma in Building, due to finances I dropped out again

2012 I registered but dropped out again due to finances

2013 I got a job at a bank and worked as a consultant for 2 years, in the 2nd year I was promoted to an Assistant Manager.

2016 I registered again, thinking I could manage my job and try attend sometimes. I dropped out again because the classes were full time and I was missing too many classes.

2018 I decided to resign and give it the last shot.

2019, age of 29 I went back and registered for the 4th time. The next 3 years tested me. There were so many times the urge to drop out came. I

had funding issues at times, I had to go from being independent to having to be fully dependent on my parents and siblings.

The lives of my children changed and it hurt me when I couldn’t do things for them. But I had this dream that I knew was going to be worth it.

2022 I graduated.

My life was never easy, but I chose to keep fighting. This dream was never going to happen without the support of my parents, siblings, children, extended family and friends.

Thank you to NSFAS for funding my 1st year, Anonymous donor for funding my 2nd year (a miracle), Stefanutti Stocks Building for funding my 3rd year.

Modimo ke star! God’s timing is perfect timing.

I am Kholofelo Makofane , a Junior Quantity Surveyor.”

Congratulations Kholofelo Makofane , we celebrate with you
