Nigerian actress and reality TV star, Bisola Aiyeola, has revealed the emotional challenges she faced as a single mother in the early days.
Speaking candidly to Tope Olowoniyan, Aiyeola shared that learning she was expecting a child outside of marriage triggered feelings of trauma, partly because her own mother had also raised her as a single parent.
She reflected on the shame and fear she felt, worrying that the pattern might continue with her own daughter.
“I felt scared and embarrassed about being pregnant and having a child out of wedlock. I believed I would marry because I was engaged at the time, but that didn’t happen. It felt humiliating, knowing my mum was a single parent and now I was about to be one too. I worried my daughter might face the same situation,” she recalled.
Aiyeola also noted that her family’s financial struggles made the prospect of raising a child even more daunting. She admitted that she initially found it hard to come to terms with motherhood and even struggled with breastfeeding her daughter.
Over time, however, she said she learned to embrace her circumstances and cherish her daughter, appreciating the joy and lessons that came with the experience.
Looking back, the 40-year-old actress expressed gratitude for her daughter and the growth that motherhood has brought her.
