I Have Learned To Do Big Things From My Wife — Actor Daniel Etim Effiong
Nollywood actor Daniel Etim Effiong has credited his wife, Toyosi, with reshaping his mindset about ambition, growth and taking bold steps in life.
Speaking during a recent conversation, the actor said his wife taught him to “do big things” and to push beyond self-imposed limits. “I have learned from you to do big things. To just do big things. Since I’ve met this girl, she just used to do—she punched well above your weight. Well above your weight,” he said.
Daniel recalled growing up on the Lagos mainland, where gradual progress defined his view of success. “I grew up in Anthony Village… then we moved to Bagada… then my brother got a house in Lekki and moved to Lekki… I grew up seeing mobility… you can start somewhere, start small, and then move and then grow.”
He explained that this outlook influenced his early plans for marriage. “I’m like, ‘Hey, you know, we’re getting married… I want to get a house in Yaba because, you know, we should start…’”
However, Toyosi challenged his thinking. “Toyosi is like, ‘But I have a house in Lekki. Why are you—move into my house! Why are you moving to Yaba?’” he recalled.
When he resisted, insisting on owning his own home, she pushed further. “At least match that house that I’m moving away from. Don’t take me from Lekki and go to Yaba.”
According to the actor, that moment forced him to rethink his limitations. “Because of you, I had to stretch my mind. I had to grow. I had to push myself to say, ‘You know what? Why do I have to start with Yaba… why can’t I just start with Lekki?’ And it was a stretch for me.”
Daniel said the experience taught him the power of thinking bigger and embracing growth beyond comfort zones.
