“His Allawee As A Corper At Zenith Bank And Federal Allawee Combined Was More Than His Mum’s Salary As A Teacher “-Man Recounts Reason He Decided He Was Never Going To Work As A Teacher
Mine was when I started my youth service. I had my primary assignment at zenith bank that year.
If memory serves me right, I can’t remember very clearly again but I think zenith bank was paying 30k or 35k to youth corper then and our federal allowie was around 9700 too. When I got my first pay as a zenith corper, I took all my money back home (federal allowie and zenith stipend) and gave it to my parents. My mum asked me how much was there and she sighed when I told her.
She said she has been working for over 20yrs as a public school teacher and her monthly salary wasn’t up to what I just got as my own first salary as a corper.
That day, I vowed in my heart never to see anything that will make me work as a teacher, be it in private or government school, and I sincerely prayed to God too that I’d never be poor.
I served at the period the world went into a global economic recession and as a result, zenith Bank could not retain its corper that year, except for those with very strong internal connect. After my service year, I was unable to get a job for a very long time. All my friends that we served together went to pick up a teaching job in various private schools but I refused to do so. I was really humbled by sapa but I refused to bend my knee.
I’m not rich yet, but I’m very comfortable. Thanks be to God for how far He has brought me. I know it will still get better than it is right now.
