Heartbreaking Story On How A Young Man Sent His Brother To School Abroad After Selling A Family Land, Today He’s Established In The U.K But Refused To Take Care Of His Siblings, Calling Them Pest
We sold family land worth 8 million naira in 2011 to send my younger brother Tobilola to the UK.♥️♥️♥️ Tobi was 24 years old then, the youngest amongst the 8 siblings. He was smart and very reasonable, it seemed so. I’m Kunle, the first son and i was 39 years as at then. Our father was an ordinary man, he tried his best to raised us but it wasn’t easy for him as he only relied on the Vulcanizing work to fend for the family. Many times i questioned him for birthing so many kids when his earnings was on a small roadside Vulcanizing work, later i realized the world was too heavy on him and he only found happiness by giving birth. I stopped blaming him long time ago but i still feel pains when i see all my siblings struggling.
My father had about ten plots of land in his name, a year ago when he sustained an accidentt💔 which nearly took his life. He decided to shared the land for us to avoid problems after his deathh. I was the first born, already married with a child, he gave me two plots of land, a plot each to everyone of us, 3 girls and five boys. Everybody had papers to their land and we all were hoping development reach that area soon so the price can skyrock
On the 12th of February 2011, one of my long time secondary school friend Johnson called me. All the 8 children my father bore stopped at secondary school level except Tobilola which i personally took charge of his education. Then he had just graduated from the University with a great result. “Ah Kunle, i have been looking for your contact o. I have been in the UK since 2008 after my graduation from the University” Johnson told me and we chatted for long. He told me he can assist me to come over but i knew i couldn’t afford to leave my family. Truth was, i knew little about the world so i was scared of facing a larger world. Johnson sent me 500 dollars and other foreign currencies, which was like a trillion dollars to me. I really couldn’t believed it when the money was converted to naira, it was over 700k.♥️. I had only defended him once before his bullies in the secondary school year’s ago.
I plead with Johnson to sponsored my younger brother Tobilola instead, he agreed to provide him accomodations and assist him get a job when he made it over but the expenses of his travel would be covered by us. I agreed and called a family meeting.
Look at us, we all poor and average, 💔 nobody in our family is doing especially great. I’m pleading with us to gather our land together and sell it so that we can push Tobilola to the UK. He can be the light in our home” i told them. It wasn’t easy to convinced them but at the end, we all sold our lands amounting to 8 million naira. Finally on the 10th of December 2011, Tobilola flight took off from the Muritala Muhammad international airport in Lagos.
We all watched happily with a renewed hope as he went, we just hope the pasture would be good for him and he can remember us too. ♥️♥️
Two years passed and Tobilola began to screen our calls. Fact, he hadn’t sent a dime home and we weren’t angry because we believed he hadn’t settled properly even though my friend Johnson who gave him accomodations for a year told me how lucky Tobilola was for getting a really great job. Gradually, our calls turned to disturbance to Tobi. 💔💔💔
We all questioned if he was the same Tobilola we all sold our land to sent him to UK. Well, he was the Tobilola. In 2017, Tobilola sent home 2 million naira with a message to the family. ” You guys should stop being pests, you sent me to the UK, that doesn’t mean i should live my life for you all”. His message broke our hearts because in all honesty, it was his first time sending money home, even though several things happened at home which he blatantly ignored or sending anything. During that time, one of our sister’s was severely sick, her illness defied all treatment and after spending the 2 million naira Tobi sent, she still died.
