Diiadem: Why I Don’t Call Myself A Single Mum

Adeola Adeyemi, the beauty entrepreneur and reality star, popularly known as Diiadem, has revealed why she chooses not to label herself a single mother, even though she largely raises her daughter on her own.

In a recent interview on the Diary of a Naija Girl podcast, ‘The Real Housewives of Lagos’ season 3 star explained that she prefers the term “single parent,” emphasising that she has always kept the door open for her child’s father to remain present in their daughter’s life.

Diiadem disclosed that after a long period of absence, her daughter’s father eventually reached out, and she welcomed the reconnection, despite concerns from those close to her.

“I won’t say I am a single mother. I would just say I am a single parent because I did not stop my baby’s dad from being in her life,” she said.

“After a very long time, he reached out, and I opened the doors because, to be very honest, I wanted my daughter to have her dad. Even the guy I was seeing at the time was like, ‘Are you okay? This guy just left you guys.’ But at the end of the day, that’s her dad. What can we do?

“I saw the joy and happiness he brought to my child. So, it is actually not the same.”

The beauty influencer noted that while she is financially capable of raising her child alone, the emotional presence of a father figure remains irreplaceable.

“To be very honest, the position of a man would still be there. You can’t do it all. Even though you have the money… that emotional presence is needed for the child,” she said.

The reality star previously disclosed that she left her relationship with her child’s father after experiencing domestic abuse while pregnant.

Diiadem and her ex-husband Odekunle held their traditional wedding in 2017.
