
Despite Being Turned Down By Over 1,500 Employers, 28-Year-Old Makes History As Youngest Black Professor To Teach At 3 Prestigious Universities Simultaneously
Dr. Eli Joseph, a 28-year-old instructor, has achieved remarkable success despite facing numerous rejections and failures throughout his life.
He currently teaches at three prestigious universities simultaneously: Columbia University, New York University, and UCLA. Dr. Joseph delivered ceremonial speeches to the class of 2023 graduates at Columbia and NYU.
Despite being turned down by over 1,500 employers, 30 colleges, and 75 scholarship foundations, he persevered and is now an associate faculty member at Columbia University and teaches graduate students at NYU.
Dr. Joseph uses his experiences as motivation and has authored a best-selling book on building a career through failure. Dr. Eli Joseph, a remarkable 28-year-old instructor who holds the distinction of teaching concurrently at three esteemed universities: Columbia University, New York University, and UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles).
This year, he delivered commencement speeches to the graduating class of 2023 at both Columbia and NYU’s School of Professional Studies. Despite his impressive achievements, Dr. Joseph is no stranger to setbacks and disappointment.
His story is the embodiment of the saying “There is no easy way to success”, throughout his life, he faced rejection from over 1,500 employers, 30 colleges, and 75 scholarship foundations. He encountered denials from renowned institutions such as Princeton, UPenn, Cornell University, Dartmouth University, and Brown University.
In 2012, Dr. Joseph received a rejection letter from Columbia University. But he persevered, something that takes a very strong will to do and for most people they would have given up, because one can only stomach so much rejections before giving up on their dreams and life in general. However, due to his fortitude, today he serves as an associate faculty member in the Applied Analytics program at Columbia University School of Professional Studies.
Similarly, in 2016, he was turned away by the New York University Tandon School of Engineering, but he now instructs graduate students at NYU’s School of Professional Studies. Additionally, Dr. Joseph has encountered numerous rejection notices from various firms in finance, technology, and managerial consulting, including JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Google, Amazon, Facebook, BCG, McKinsey, Deloitte, and Bain. Despite facing countless rejections from both institutions and companies, Dr. Joseph has triumphed over personal and professional challenges, including the recent loss of his older brother last year. He harnesses his failures as a source of motivation to succeed. In the past fall, he delivered two TEDx talks titled “Time Is Your Biggest Competition” and “No Trace, No Case.”Dr. Joseph holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from Felician University, becoming the first-ever graduate to complete the curriculum at the age of 24.
He is also the accomplished author of the best-selling book, “The Perfect Rejection Resume: A Reader’s Guide to Building a Career Through Failure.“
