At His First Job, Now Studying For His Masters At The Nottingham Trent University, Says”
A young Nigerian Man named Emmanuel Anyanwu has shared his tough career journey in a lengthy post on LinkedIn.
Read below:
For exactly 2 years and 10 months, I was practically working at a place where Corpers earned more than I did.
Immediately after NYSC, I started on a job at this said place. Meanwhile, all my colleagues who served with me left, ALL of them, 🥹 but I remained.
To many, it seemed like the most unreasonable thing to do.
I’d hear things like; “… this is not for someone like you Emmanuel”, some would say;
“…you are smart… Check out Lagos” others said.
At a point, I questioned myself to know if I was doing the right thing.
I said to me, “Emmanuel, you sure say this tin no go cast?”😅(mutter this exactly as I’ve written it and you’d get the real gist).
But then, I critically examined my decision once again considering that I was living in a place where I single-handedly covered my housing, feeding, transportation and other living expenses.
Then I said, “E no go cast”- at least I needed the reassurance.😅
You would want to ask, what’s this all about?
This is the story
I graduated as a Biomedical Technologist, now Biomedical Engineering from a renowned Nigerian university and despite the huge prospects of the course, I wasn’t willing to practice it..and I was sure of this.
When I started off with NYSC,I was posted to a state ministry of health, I immediately knew this was the way to go; I was going to delve into Public Health.
I was keenly looking at something around “Healthcare Policy, Economics, Financing and Strategy”.
So I was willing to dedicate a couple more years of my life to this cause.
While I learnt the ropes of Healthcare Policy and Financing, I made myself totally available to learning and self-development.
This process availed me the opportunity to sit in meetings with high-profile leaders from world-renowned organisations such as UNICEF, HSCL amidst others.
I also sat in the same room with top political office holders including Governors, Heads of Service amongst others.
On February 1st, 2022, I knew it was time to leave, as I had gotten the much I needed and it was time to look at the money-making part, so I joined Sendme.ng , one the fastest growing food technology company in Ibadan and its environs.
There, I took up the position of Digital Marketing Associate.
Did I forget to mention that I already acquired solid skills in Social Media Strategy, and content marketing while learning Public Health? 🫣
I worked with Sendme till September and then took the next big leap.
Now I’m onto a Master of Art in Public Health at the Nottingham Trent University and everything is piecing itself together gradually.
Thought to say this to someone who needs to hear it.
Set your heart on your goal.
You may not be totally certain, you may even doubt your decision(s) at some point but focus on the process, TRUST IT.
I’m @Emmanuel Anyanwu, your favourite Social Media Strategist who’s also hooked to Public Health.
