Chude Jideonwo Marvels At Otedola’s Refusal Of His Daughters’ Request To Join Or Run His Companies, Shares Interesting Details About His Book
Chude Jideonwo is a Nigerian TV host, filmmaker and media entrepreneur. He recently shared an update after reading Billionaire Businessman Otedola’s book titled making it big. The media personality agrees that he read the book in one sitting and he was shocked on how the book exceeded his expectations.
Chude Jideonwo summarized the book on his Instagram page, he wrote:
“I have stopped recommending anything on my page for about 4 years.
I want to make this exception.
Never met or been a fan of Femi Otedola. Don’t know anyone in his circle or family (well, save for the time we were called into the Zenon headquarters for crisis communication consultancy about 10 years ago). But I read every new biography released by Nigeria’s business leaders.
Almost without fail, they disappoint. I expected this one too to disappoint, but at least I would extract helpful local context. But I read it in one sitting – and it shocked me by exceeding my expectations.
The first few chapters were vague and annoying, but then they moved forward fast.
And then it got better, and got even better, and then got incredibly good.
He names names, he details his weaknesses and errors with excruciating detail, he is honest and plain spoken, he dispenses – through the stories – invaluable first-hand knowledge about how Nigeria truly works. And in some parts, like his relationship with his CEO Akin, who he hired in his 30s, or his refusal of his daughters’ request to join or run his companies, it is truly, deeply heartwarming.
It is also extremely well written and well edited, which is something that has always irked me about biographies here – how can you have so much money, and you can’t find or pay the talent that avoids mediocre publishing?
In some places Otedola withholds, some sections beggar belief, there are very telling missing narratives including that of a close family member and anecdotes about his fellow billionaire bestie, but all that can be forgiven because this is the most honest published contemporary autobiography of any Nigerian this powerful.
I find myself thankful for it.
