Chess Master Tunde Onakoya Shares Touching Story As He Marks Exactly 1 Year Since His Hip Replacement Surgery

July 11

Today marks exactly 1 year since my hip replacement surgery. A pivotal moment for me after living my entire life with debilitating Leg pain (Avascular Necrosis) from a wrongly administered injection when I was a 9 months old.
This experience completely changed my life and taught me to never take the little things for granted.

The recovery months sent me into deep depression as I had to learn how to walk again as a child, and rely on other people to do even the simplest tasks.

It truly felt like the world had moved on and I was just static. But God’s promise and the hard lessons he was teaching me in that season was that I be STILL and let the world move on, because someday I would move again and the world will STANDSTILL for me.

The world has indeed stood still for me especially in the last couple of months, as I started playing chess again, Broke a world record, Started playing the piano again,Travelled the world, Spoke on Global stages and Helped more children find their place in the world again. Maybe danced a little more as well😊.

I finally found the courage to chase all the things that set my soul on fire.

The surgeons say the titanium implants have a lifespan of 15-20 years if you’re lucky, so I guess this is year one of being a cyborg. I’m still recovering and not sure what the future holds, but one thing I know that’s certain is God will hold my hands through all of it.

This frail body and these broken bones will house the greatest spirit humanity will ever know.

I’m living❤️

For everyone going through their own version of being static or nursing a pain no one else understands, I hope you don’t give up on yourself. Those battle scars will tell a beautiful story that healing is possible.
Someday you will move again and the world will STANDSTILL.
